Health classes explained
What Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard mean and what determines which class you're in.
Carriers organize their pricing by rate class. The exact names vary but the ranking is similar: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, then table ratings for people outside normal ranges. Tobacco users get their own set of classes at higher costs.
What underwriters look at
Height and weight, blood pressure and cholesterol, your family's heart disease or cancer history before age 60, your driving record, prescriptions you take, what your job is and what you do for fun, and any tobacco or nicotine. Getting the best class needs solid results across nearly everything; Preferred lets you have a little more; Standard Plus and Standard cover controlled conditions like blood pressure that's being treated.
How to use the quote tool
Be honest when you answer the health question: Excellent lines up with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus and Average with Standard. That's what your quote will show. If you're unsure compare two classes side-by-side and let the application settle it. Being optimistic about your health doesn't lower what you'll actually pay; it just throws off the estimate.
Susman Insurance Agency knows which carriers are more flexible with certain health situations, which usually matters more than just the advertised rate.
