Lafayette was incorporated on July 29, 1968, nearly a century after settlers arrived in the 1840s and the town was given its name in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, the French general and statesman who fought in the American Revolution. The name has roots in the land itself: the area was originally inhabited by the Saclan tribe of the Bay Miwok before Spanish colonization and American settlement. Today it remains a community shaped by that founding generation's choice to preserve its character.

According to the 2020 census, Lafayette has a population of 25,391 residents across 15.21 square miles, with a median household income of $222,393 reflecting an affluent demographic. The city has its own BART station, which connects residents to the broader Bay Area transportation network. This combination of suburban quietness, economic prosperity, and regional accessibility has made Lafayette a destination for families and established professionals seeking stability in a desirable location.

Families with strong incomes and established homes are often the ones thinking most carefully about planning for risk. Life insurance is part of that planning, a way to convert the income that built your life into a fixed sum that protects the people who depend on that income. The term matters—20 years covers most mortgages and growing children; 30 years reaches further. Comparing actual carrier rates helps you size the coverage to what your family actually needs.
